Employer Sponsored
The Australian visa system has two classes of employer nominated visas that allow applicants to apply for permanent residence in Australia. These visas require a nomination by an employer.
Applicants can apply for a visa under one of the following:
Employer Nomination Scheme (ENS) – Class EN – Subclass 186
The Employer Nominated Scheme (ENS) Subclass 186 Visa is a permanent visa which allows skilled overseas workers to live and work in Australia.
186 Visa holders can:
- work in Australia indefinitely
- study in Australia
- travel to and from Australia for 5 years
- apply for Australian citizenship, if eligible
Regional Sponsored Migration Scheme (RSMS) – Class RN – Subclass 187
This permanent Regional Sponsored Migration Stream (RSMS) Subclass 187 Visa allows skilled overseas workers to live and work in a regional area of Australia.
187 Visa holders can:
- work in Australia indefinitely
- study in Australia
- travel to and from Australia for 5 years
- apply for Australian citizenship, if eligible
Temporary Skill Shortage Visa or TSS
The Temporary Skill Shortage Visa or TSS is used to assist employers to bring in skilled workers when they are unable to fill vacancies within Australia, it is used to fill temporary skill shortages.
- This visa provides employment for periods ranging from 1 to 4 years (depending on the occupation being nominated), and it can be possibly renewed.
- Sponsors/Employers of skilled workers must meet various requirements to be able to sponsor an overseas worker.
- Applicants for this visa subclass must also meet various criteria such as English language requirements, skill requirements etc.
- This visa also provides holders with a pathway to permanent residence if they meet the requirements of the permanent visas.
